Up on the 7th floor, in units 742 and 743, is where we spend our days at Intracom Telecom. The view from the windows is mostly just other office buildings and a bit of the horizon if the sky is clear. It’s a busy place with a lot of wires and testing equipment lying around on various tables. We’re not big on keeping everything perfectly tidy, as there’s always some project being worked on. The staff here is a mix of people who have been around for years and a few newer faces. We mostly deal with telecommunications hardware and making sure signals are doing what they should. It’s a lot of technical troubleshooting. The breakroom is where most of the actual talking happens, usually over a cup of coffee that’s been sitting there too long. We have a couple of whiteboards that are covered in scribbles and diagrams that only half of us really understand. The air conditioning can be a bit loud sometimes, but we’ve stopped noticing it after all this time. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know how to do. We don’t really do big corporate presentations here. If there’s a problem, we just get together and figure it out. The elevators are usually slow in the evening, so we end up chatting while waiting to head home. It’s a decent enough place to work, and we get the job done without any unnecessary drama.
