Our branch of Ultratech Cement Ltd. is located in Adityanagar, which is basically the heart of the Rajashree Cement area in Malkhed. Living and working here is like being part of a big family that all happens to work in the same industry. The township was built around the factory, so you never really escape the sight of the tall chimneys or the sound of the crushers. Most of us walk to work because everything is so close together. The mornings are usually the busiest time when the shift change happens and the gates are buzzing with people. We spend our days in the office or out on the floor, dealing with the logistics of moving massive amounts of cement out to the railway sidings. The heat in Malkhed can be pretty brutal during the summer months, and the dry air makes you thirsty fast. We do not have much in the way of entertainment around here, so we mostly just talk about the day’s production and how many wagons we managed to fill. It is a simple existence where the work is the main focus. We do not try to make it sound like anything more than it is. We make cement, we load it, and we make sure the paperwork matches the physical stock. It is a routine that works for us, and it has been that way for years.
