Our place is at 35 near the Mayavati Nursing Home in Vijay Nagar. It’s a decent spot because people coming and going from the nursing home or the nearby houses often walk past. We have been here at number 35 for a good bit of time. It’s not just sarees here; we have a mix of different clothes and fabrics for people to look at. I usually open the shutters early because the morning air is better before the traffic starts up in Vijay Nagar. The shop isn't very large, but we’ve got shelves lining every wall. I try to keep the colors grouped together so it doesn't look like a total mess. Sometimes the neighbors pop in just to chat for a few minutes while they are out getting groceries. It’s a friendly area. I do all the cleaning and the stocking myself mostly. When the new patterns come in, I spend the whole afternoon sorting them out. The floor is just plain cement and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but it works for what we need. It’s a practical shop for people who live around here and need something new to wear without going all the way to the big markets. I don’t have a computer or anything, I just keep track of everything in my head and my ledger. It’s a quiet way to make a living and I like it.
