Janta Cloth House

You will find us at 140 Turab Nagar. If you know the area, you know that Turab Nagar is one of those famous old markets where it is always incredibly crowded and lively. The street is narrow and lined with all sorts of shops. Our place, Janta Cloth House, is right in the thick of it all. We sell various types of cloth by the meter, and we have huge rolls of fabric stacked all the way up to the ceiling. It is always a bit of a struggle to pull out a roll from the very bottom of the pile. We have these long wooden counters where we spread the cloth out so customers can feel the material and look at the colors. The lighting is just simple tube lights, nothing fancy. It gets really hectic during the wedding and festival seasons. Sometimes we have to raise our voices just to be heard over the noise of the shoppers and hawkers outside. This is a family-run business and we have been here for a long time. We don't use any high-tech computer systems; we still write down most of our sales in a big paper ledger. The floor is worn down from years of people walking in and out. We keep a few small stools for the customers to sit on while they take their time picking out fabrics. It is just a very traditional way of doing business.
