Ankit Garments

Ankit Garments is at 12487 in Rajendra Nagar. It’s a busy neighborhood and we’re right in the middle of it. If you come inside, you’ll hear the constant whirring of sewing machines going all day. There are piles of fabric in every corner—cottons, polyesters, and all sorts of colors. It’s a bit of a maze to walk through the workspace sometimes because we have to make use of every inch of room we have. We’ve got about ten people working here, mostly local folks who live nearby and walk to work. We make all kinds of clothing, and there are threads all over the floor by the time we shut down for the evening. We don't have a storefront with mannequins or anything fancy. People usually just find out about us by word of mouth or by seeing the bags being carried out. My desk is tucked in the corner behind a stack of finished shirts. I spend my time making sure we don't run out of needles or thread and checking that the machines are running okay. It gets pretty hot with all the people and the machines, but we have some big windows that we keep open to let the breeze in. It’s just a normal garment workshop doing what we’ve always done. We stay busy, we make the clothes, and we go home. It is honest work for everyone here.
