Sir Syed Memorial School

I’ve spent many years here at Sir Syed Memorial School in Karma, which is a small part of Bhadeya in Gaya. It’s a quiet kind of place compared to the main city. We started out with just a few rooms and a lot of hope. Over time, the school grew because there were more families moving into the area who needed a place for their children to go. The classrooms are basic—blackboards, desks, and windows that we leave open for the breeze. Sometimes a bird flies in during a lesson, which always makes the students laugh and distracts them for a few minutes. We don’t have a big team of administrators; it’s just a few of us trying to keep the place running smoothly. We handle everything from the paperwork to making sure the front gate is locked at night. The parents in Karma are hardworking people, and they trust us to look after their kids for a few hours every day. We don’t promise anything impossible. We just teach the subjects, ring the bell for lunch, and make sure everyone gets home safely. It is a very local operation, and we are quite content with how things are going in our little corner of Bhadeya.
