Putul Farmer Producer Company Limited is situated in Khidirpurfatehullahpur. We’re based at Kalpu Yadav’s place. It’s a bit of a mouthful to say the name of the town, but it’s home to us. We started this company because we wanted to have a bit more say in how our produce is sold. Usually, we just took whatever price was offered, but now we try to negotiate as a group. It’s not always easy, and none of us are experts in economics. We just know how to grow things and we know when we’re being treated fairly. The office is just a small room where we keep the books and meet up. We don't have any employees in ties or fancy computers. We mostly use notebooks and our own knowledge of the local land. If you come by Khidirpurfatehullahpur, you’ll probably see us out in the fields before you see us in the office. We do the administrative work in the evenings or when it’s raining. It’s a very hands-on operation. We aren't looking for investors or anything like that. We just want to keep our local farming community strong and make sure we can keep doing what we do for another generation. It’s just us, working the land and trying to stay ahead of the bills. We take it one day at a time and help each other out when the going gets tough.
