Prerak Prerna Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited

We started this group, Prerak Prerna Mahila Farmer Producer Company Limited, right here in Mustafabadpali. It is a small village in Gorakhpur. Most of us women have been working in these fields for a long time now. It was not always easy to get everyone together to form a real company. We usually meet up at Ajit Kumar Singh’s place because it is easy for everyone to find. We do not have a big fancy office with air conditioning or nice chairs. It is just us sitting together and talking about our crops and the prices we get. Sometimes the rain is too much and other times it does not rain at all. That is just how it goes here in Gorakhpur. We wanted to help each other out with seeds and selling what we grow. Before this, we all did it alone and it was much harder. Now we have this company name on paper, but we are still the same local people. You will see us out in the fields most days. The village life is quiet but very busy. We deal with the local markets and try to get a fair price for our hard work. It is a lot of paperwork which we are still getting used to. Sometimes we make small mistakes with the forms. But we are learning. Being a woman farmer means juggling the house and the land. We just want to make sure the crops grow well. It is honest work.
