Makooldas Farmer Producer Company Limited is our little outfit located in Shajadpur, Kaushambi. We are based at the residence of Shivshankar. It’s a simple setup where we handle all the business of our farmer group. Being in Kaushambi, we are surrounded by fields, so it made sense to start something like this. We are basically a collection of neighbors who decided to pool our produce together. Shivshankar is the one who keeps the records and makes sure we are following all the rules. The days are usually long. We start early when it’s still cool and work through the heat. There is always a lot of talk about the markets and where we should send our crops this time. We don't have any fancy equipment or a big warehouse. It’s mostly just using what we have and making it work. The village life is slow, but the work of a producer company can be quite fast-paced when harvest time comes around. We have to coordinate the trucks and make sure everything is weighed correctly. It’s a lot of responsibility, but we share the load among ourselves. We don't try to sound like a big business because we aren't one. We are just farmers who want to have a bit more control over how our work is sold. It’s honest work, and we just try to do right by the people who are part of our group. It keeps us busy and connected.
