Madhyam Farmer Producer Company Limited is based in Alinagar, Allahpursamaspur. We use Surajpal Singh’s place as our main point of contact. It is a quiet area, and most of us have lived here our whole lives. We started Madhyam because we saw that as individual farmers, we weren't getting a fair deal. By coming together as a producer company, we have a bit more weight behind us. Surajpal is usually around to help with whatever needs doing, whether it is signing papers or talking to people from the town. We don't have a lobby or a sign outside. It is just a home where we do our business. Farming in Allahpursamaspur is what we know. We don't try to pretend we are something we are not. Some days we are just tired from being out in the fields, and the last thing we want to do is sit down and look at accounts. But we know it has to be done if we want the company to stay afloat. We keep our talk simple and our goals even simpler. We want to be able to buy what we need and sell what we grow without too many people taking a cut in the middle. It’s a lot of hard work and we don’t always get it right. We just keep plugging away and helping each other out when the going gets tough.
