You can find us over at Ramsajivan’s place in the village of Mankehri, near Sarila. We are the Jeevanaadhar Farmer Producer Companylimited. Hamirpur can be a difficult place to farm because of the heat and the soil, but we’ve lived here all our lives. Our office is just a small space where we keep our registers and meet up after the day's work is done. It’s a very local operation. We don’t have any fancy signs or a big staff. It’s mostly just us farmers coming together to help each other out with the selling and buying. We talk about the rain, or the lack of it, and how the crops are looking in the different plots around the village. The room usually smells like the outdoors because someone always just walked in from the fields. We don’t use any corporate talk or try to sound like we are bigger than we are. We are just a group of people from Mankehri who decided that working together was better than working alone. It takes a lot of time to manage the company stuff alongside the farming, but we manage. Ramsajivan keeps things moving as best as he can. It’s a humble setup, but it serves the purpose for those of us trying to make a living from the land in this corner of Hamirpur.
