Hastam Organo Farmer Producer Company Limited is located at Home No. 51 in Hastam village, over in the Bisanda part of Banda. This is where we all come together to deal with the realities of farming in this part of Uttar Pradesh. It’s a tough landscape sometimes, and the heat can really take it out of you, but we’ve been here forever. We focus on organic farming, which basically means we do things the long way. There is a lot of composting and natural pest control, which is just part of the daily grind for us now. The house where we meet is usually full of talk about the latest harvest or who has a tractor available to help out a neighbor. We aren't a big corporation with a fancy building. We’re just a collection of local families who figured out that we’re stronger if we work as one group. We do our own sorting and we try to get the best out of what the soil gives us. Some years are better than others, and you just have to take the bad ones with the good ones. We spend our days out in the sun and our evenings sitting around talking shop. It’s a simple life, focused on the dirt under our boots and the crops in the ground, and we wouldn't know how to do it any other way.
