Nambiyattukudy Modern Rice Mill

You’ll find Nambiyattukudy Modern Rice Mill over in Koovappady, near Perumbavoor. It’s a beautiful part of Kerala, though inside the mill, it’s mostly just the smell of grain and the sound of the machinery running. We’ve been part of this community for a long time now. The work is very much tied to the seasons and the local harvest. When the rice comes in, things get extremely busy, and we’re often working late into the evening. It’s a modern mill, but that just means we have some machines to help with the processing; the work itself is still very much hands-on. The floors are always a bit dusty from the husks, and the humidity in Perumbavoor can make it feel quite heavy inside the building. Most of our workers are from the local villages around Koovappady, and we’ve known their families for years. It’s not the kind of place where people wear suits. We’re usually in practical clothes that can handle a bit of dirt and sweat. We don't have a website with fancy photos or a big sales team. People just know where we are and what we do. Sometimes we sit outside for a bit during the afternoon when the sun isn't too strong, just to get away from the noise of the grinders. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living, providing a basic need for the people around here without making a big deal out of it.
