Front Office Assistant

I’m Hemant Singh, and I spend most of my days here at Hotel Shiv Nautica in Mundra. If you’re looking for me, I’m usually behind the front desk or somewhere near the lobby area. Nanakapya is a dusty part of the Kutch region, especially with all the trucks moving toward the port. The hotel itself is a bit of a landmark around here, but my station is really just the front office assistant spot. I handle the check-ins and the keys, and I try to help the guests who look lost after a long journey. The air is always a bit salty because we’re so close to the sea, and the wind blows a lot of sand onto the floor, so someone is always sweeping. It’s a busy life because the port never really sleeps, so guests arrive at all hours of the night. My desk has a small fan that wobbles, but it’s a lifesaver when the humidity kicks in. We have a ledger that’s getting pretty thick, and I’m always hunting for a pen that actually works. It’s not a glamorous job, but I like meeting the different people who come through. Some are sailors, some are engineers, and they all have stories. I just make sure their rooms are ready and the lights are on. It’s simple work, but it keeps the hotel running smoothly in this corner of Gujarat.
