Ansaar Girls Inter College

Ansaar Girls Inter College is right in the middle of Mohalla Azampur in Mauaima. Being in Allahabad, or Prayagraj as it is now, the area is always busy with people and rickshaws. The college for girls is a bit of a sanctuary from the noise outside. It’s an inter college, so we have students from the middle school years all the way up to class twelve. The building is older, with narrow stairs and rooms that stay cool even when the sun is out. You can hear the teachers’ voices echoing through the corridors during lessons. We have a lot of students, so it can get a bit cramped during the lunch break when everyone is in the courtyard. We don't have a lot of extra money for decorations, so the walls are mostly covered with educational charts and student drawings. The girls wear their uniforms and we are quite strict about that. Most of our teachers have been with us for a long time and they know the families in the mohalla very well. We don't do any big promotions or ads in the newspapers. Parents bring their daughters here because they trust the local environment. It’s a practical place where the focus is on finishing the syllabus and getting through the board exams. It’s just how things are done here in Mauaima every day. We just try to keep things moving along. There is always a lot to do, but it is worth it.
