Our place is up on the fourth floor of Plot No. E-18 in Nehru Ground. It’s a bit of a climb if the lift is acting up, which happens more often than we’d like, but the view of the main road from up there is something else. You can see the whole bus stand area from the window, and it’s always packed with people rushing around. Being in the middle of Nehru Ground means it’s never really silent, even when the windows are shut. We have our desks set up near the back where it’s a little cooler. The office gets a lot of light in the mornings, which is nice until it gets too hot in the summer. We keep a lot of our stock records in these big green ledgers that have been around since we started. There’s a small corner for making tea and coffee, though we usually just send someone down to the street level for a quick cup at the stall near the entrance. The floors are a bit scuffed from moving boxes around, and the ceiling fans have a slight wobble to them that makes a clicking noise. We spend a lot of time on the phone or just looking over the lists of what’s coming in and what’s going out. It’s a busy spot, and there’s always someone coming in through the door with some news or a delivery note. It’s not a quiet life on the fourth floor, but it’s where we do our work.
