The Royal Jain Dance Academy

The Royal Jain Dance Academy is tucked away at 1690 in the F-Block of Sainik Colony. It’s a pretty quiet residential area in Sector 49, Faridabad, at least until the music starts playing in the afternoons. We are fairly close to Badkhal Lake, so sometimes we get a bit of a breeze, but mostly it’s just the sound of feet hitting the floor. The studio has big mirrors that we have to clean every single day because the kids leave fingerprints all over them. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. There are just some benches where parents sit and wait while their children are in class. Sometimes the music is too loud and the neighbors might complain, so we try to keep the windows shut even when it's hot. The wooden floor has some scratches from years of practice, but we think it gives the place some character. We spend a lot of time teaching the same steps over and over again until everyone gets it right. It’s a lot of hard work and sweating, especially during the humid months. We usually have some water bottles sitting in the corner and a pile of bags near the door. It’s a simple space where people come to move around and forget about the outside world for an hour. We like being part of the neighborhood here in Sector 49.
