Marshall Marine Products

Down at 1, Cholan Street, things can get pretty busy. We are right off Bhavani Main Road, so there are always trucks rumbling past the front door. Marshall Marine Products is mostly about the daily routine of handling what comes in from the water. The air around here usually has that salt and fish scent that sticks to your clothes. We do not mind it much anymore. The floor is usually wet from washing things down and we all wear boots to keep our feet dry. Cholan Street is not a very long road, but we are right at the start of it. Sometimes the traffic on the main road makes it hard for the pickups to turn in, so there is a lot of waving and shouting involved. We have a small area where we keep the records and a larger space for the actual work. It is a practical place. We don't have air conditioning in the main area, just big vents to keep the air moving. You learn to work fast when you are dealing with marine products because time is not on your side. The sun hits the front of the building in the afternoon and it gets pretty warm inside. We just keep the water running and the crates moving. It is the kind of job where you go home tired every single day. We have been in this spot for a while and we know the local drivers.
