Oxfam Great Britian

This is our small office for Oxfam Great Britian over on Komoroth Lane, just off Azad Road in Kaloor. Even though we are part of a larger group, down here in Kochi, it feels very local. The building is tucked away at number 37 1923. It’s not a grand headquarters. It’s just a few rooms where we organize our efforts. Kerala is a beautiful place, but we have our work cut out for us here. The office is often full of boxes and old posters from past projects. We have a small kitchen where we make tea. Most of the staff are people from the neighborhood who wanted to help out with something meaningful. We spend a lot of time talking to local communities and trying to understand what they need. It isn’t always easy, and sometimes the heat in Kochi makes it hard to stay focused in the afternoons. We have some old ceiling fans that creak a lot when they are on full speed. We don’t have a big budget for fancy furniture, so we make do with what we have. It feels more like a community center than a corporate office. People drop by to ask questions or just to see what we are doing. We try to keep the door open as much as possible. Kaloor is a busy area, but our lane is a bit quieter than the main road. It’s a good place to work from.
