Down in Alwaye, specifically on Aswathy Monastry Lane, you’ll find this Icici Bank office. It is a bit of a tucked-away spot in Cochin, but people find their way here easily enough. The lane itself can be quite quiet, except when the rain starts coming down hard and everyone is scurrying for cover. Inside, it’s the usual setup you’d expect. We’ve got the counters, the glass partitions, and that faint smell of old paper and ink. Working here feels like being part of the neighborhood. We know who is getting married, who is sending money home, and who is just having a bad day. We don’t try to act like we are in some big high-rise in a movie. It is just us, a few desks, and a lot of work to get through before the sun goes down. People come in from the lane, shake off their umbrellas, and wait their turn. We spend a lot of time explaining the same things over and over, but that’s just how it goes. Sometimes we have a bit of a laugh when things get too hectic, just to keep our spirits up. We aren't here to change the world, just to handle the banking for the people around Alwaye. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till evening. There’s always another form to sign or a query to answer. That is just life here on the lane.
