We’re up here in Flat-160, the penthouse at CHPL-Shikhar on Junwani Road. It sounds a bit more grand than it actually is. It’s just a regular spot in Bhilai where we handle things for Steel Authority Of India Limited. Being in Smriti Nagar, we are right in the thick of things. The summer heat in Chhattisgarh is no joke, and it gets pretty stuffy in here even with the fans going full blast. We spend most of our time looking at logistics and making sure the steel gets moving. There’s always a lot of paperwork on the desks. We have a small balcony where you can see the city, which is nice when you need a break from the screens. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up, so we end up taking the stairs, which is quite a climb to the top. We aren't fancy people. We just sit around, drink some chai, and talk about the daily orders. Most of the people working here have been around for years. We know how the local plants work and we try to keep things organized. It’s a lot of phone calls and checking ledgers. The office isn't decorated much, just some old calendars and stacks of files that need filing. We just do our work and head home. It’s a busy, dusty, honest kind of life here in Bhilai. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. It’s just us doing our bit every day.
