Bhilai Steel Plant

We've been around the Pudki Para area for a long time now. Working at Bhilai Steel Plant means you get used to the noise and the heat pretty fast. The plant sits right near the Pump House, not far from Nizami Chowk in Farid Nagar. It’s a busy spot in Supela. Most days start early before the sun gets too high. You see people coming and going from their shifts all the time. The roads get a bit dusty but that’s just how it is in Durg. Sometimes we grab tea near the crossroads when there’s a break. The plant is huge and there’s always something going on. It feels like the whole town revolves around the steel we make here. My father worked here too, and now I’m here. It’s not a quiet job, but it’s steady work. We see the smoke and the fire from the furnaces every night. Living and working around here in Bhilai means you know everyone else is doing the same thing. You don't think about it much, you just get on with the day. The machines are loud and the metal is heavy. It's a lot of manual stuff and checking the gauges. We stay busy. Around the 490023 area, everyone knows where the plant is. It’s part of the landscape. It isn't fancy but it gets the job done and keeps the families around here going through the years.
