Opal School

Opal School is tucked into the Jawahar Nagar area of Katulbod in Durg. It’s a place that feels very much like the neighborhood around it. In the mornings, the streets get a bit crowded with cycles and people heading to work, and our gate is right there in the middle of it. The building isn't too flashy, but it does the job. We have classrooms that get plenty of light, though it gets quite warm in the afternoons. You’ll usually find some of the staff hanging out near the entrance during the breaks, just watching the world go by. We’ve seen the area change over the years, with more houses popping up nearby. Inside, the floors have that worn look from years of feet walking back and forth. We don’t really go in for big speeches or fancy posters. It’s mostly just us doing our daily tasks, keeping the chalkboards clean and making sure the benches are straight. When the rainy season hits, the sound on the roof is so loud you can hardly hear yourself think, but everyone just gets on with it. It’s a familiar routine for all of us. People know where to find us if they need anything since we’re right here in the heart of Katulbod. It’s not a quiet place, but it’s home for a good part of our day. We just keep the doors open and do what needs doing.
