We’ve been here in Maroda for a while now. Bhilai is a busy place, but our spot is a bit quieter than the main roads. Every morning, the gates open at Bhilai Public School and the kids start trickling in. Some walk from the nearby houses in Durg, while others take the bus from a few kilometers away. It gets really dusty in the summer months, but we just manage it with regular cleaning. The hallways are usually noisy between classes with the sound of chatter and heavy bags. We have the usual classrooms, a small playground where the grass struggles to stay green in the heat, and some old desks that have seen better days. Teachers here just get on with the job. It’s not a fancy setup, just a regular school where people know each other’s names and faces. We deal with the frequent power cuts and the heavy monsoon rains like everyone else in the 490001 area. Sometimes the bell rings a minute late, or a ball gets stuck on the roof during the lunch break. That’s just how things go here. We spend most of our day keeping things running, making sure the chalk is stocked and the water coolers are full. It is a lot of paperwork and talking to parents about their kids' grades. Most people in the neighborhood know where we are. It’s a plain building, nothing too flashy on the outside. We’ve had the same gatekeeper for a long time.
