This version of Gyan Steel Rolling Mills (P) Ltd. is actually managed from 500 Bank Colony in Khanna. Mandi Gobindgarh is where most of the industrial stuff happens, but our office is tucked away in the colony. It’s a bit quieter here than being right in the middle of the steel yards. We spend a lot of time on the phone or looking at ledgers. Khanna and Mandi Gobindgarh are so close that they almost feel like the same place if you are in the steel business. Our office at number 500 is a plain place. We have some chairs, some old desks, and a lot of paper. Being in Bank Colony means we are close to the bank and other shops, which makes things easy. We get started early in the morning because that’s when the air is still cool. By noon, the sun is usually beating down on the roof. We deal with the rolling mill side of things, making sure the supply is steady and the workers have what they need. It is a lot of back and forth between the office and the sites. We don’t use any big words to describe what we do. We just say we are in steel. Most people in this town understand what that means. It’s a lot of hard work and keeping track of tons and kilograms. We’ve been doing it this way for years now and it works.
