Our facility is out in the Dhenkanal district of Orissa. It’s a large operation compared to a small shop, but we still run it with a basic approach. We focus on metal production. The air is always heavy with the smell of industry out here. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city, so most of us live nearby. We have shifts running throughout the day and night. It’s not an easy job. The heat from the furnaces is intense. We produce raw metal materials that go out to other factories. We have a lot of machinery that needs constant looking after. When something breaks, it’s a big deal and everyone gets to work. We don't have a lot of corporate polish. The office is just a place to keep the records and have meetings. We wear heavy boots and safety gear because the environment requires it. Dhenkanal has changed a lot since we started. More industry has moved in. We’ve stayed focused on our own output. We don’t do much talking; we just let the production numbers speak. It's about getting the raw materials processed and onto the trucks. Every day is about managing the flow of material and keeping the equipment running. It’s a tough environment but it’s what we do. We eat lunch together in the canteen and then get back to it.
