Our office is at number 83 in Periyur Village. It’s out in Pennagaram, and the post goes through Pikkili Post in the Dharmapuri district. The name is a mouthful—Athiyaman Crops And Animal Husbandary Farmers Producer Company Limited—but we just think of it as the local group. We deal with both the plants in the ground and the animals in the sheds. Dharmapuri is a tough place for farming sometimes, with the rain being unpredictable, so we all try to work together. Periyur is a small village where everyone knows each other’s business. We have our small space where we keep the company books and meet up. It’s mostly just talk about goats, cows, and whatever we’ve planted this season. The building is simple, just like the village itself. You won’t find any shiny signs or glass walls here. We have wooden benches and a lot of mud on our boots. Being at 636809 means we are quite a way out from the big cities, but that’s where the animals and crops are, so that’s where we stay. We spend our days helping the farmers in the collective figure out their next steps. It’s a lot of hard work and not much sleep during the busy times, but it’s what we do here in Periyur.
