Operating Sonia Tents out of Tughlakabad is definitely an experience. This part of town has so much history but the lanes are quite narrow for the big trucks we use. Dealing with tents means we are always handling heavy bamboo poles, thick canvas, and lots of ropes. It is physically demanding work and your back definitely feels it by the end of the week. We don’t have a sleek showroom. Our space is mostly for storage, filled with stacked chairs and folded fabric. When there is a wedding or a big function, things get very frantic around here. We have to load everything up and make sure we didn't forget the small stuff like the curtain hooks or the decorative borders. Sometimes the weather doesn't play nice and we have to dry out everything after a big rain, which takes forever. Tughlakabad is a crowded place, so just getting out of the neighborhood with a full load can take thirty minutes. We’ve been doing this for a long time, so we know how to navigate the local streets. It’s not a glamorous business by any means. It’s mostly about sweat and making sure the structures stay up when the wind blows. We just focus on the task at hand and try to keep our inventory in decent shape for the next person who needs it. Sonia Tents is basically just us and our gear in the heart of Tughlakabad.
