S. J. Crafts

S. J. Crafts is our little workshop over in Laxmi Nagar. We’re at Plot No. R-245A on Street No-11 in Ramesh Park. It’s a residential area mostly, so it’s a bit quieter than the big markets, but Street No-11 still has its share of activity. We started this because we wanted to make things with our hands. Our workshop isn't very large, so we have to be careful about how we use the space. Every corner is filled with some kind of material or tool. We don’t really have fixed hours; we usually just start in the morning and go until the work is finished. Sometimes that means working late into the night. It’s just a few of us here, and we all know what needs to be done. We don’t use any fancy equipment, mostly just basic stuff that gets the job done. People from the neighborhood sometimes stop by to see what we’re making. We don’t have a showroom, so they just look at what’s on the benches. It’s a very simple setup. We don’t spend much time on the phone or the computer, we’d rather be working on the crafts themselves. Sometimes the place gets a bit dusty from all the cutting and sanding, but we clean up when we can. It’s a modest way to earn a living, and we’re happy with how things are.
