You’ll find Jay Pee Fireworks at D-31 in the Achary Niketan area of Khichripur. The shop is mostly quiet for most of the year, but we keep things ready. We have shelves filled with different kinds of crackers and sparklers. It’s a family-run thing and we’ve been at this address for quite some time. The room stays cool because we don't have many windows, which is good for the stock. We spend time checking the boxes to make sure everything is dry and kept away from any heat. When the festival season comes, the whole place changes and becomes very busy. My brothers and I take turns staying at the shop during those weeks. We have to be very careful with how we handle everything. Most of the people who come in are families looking for stuff for their kids. We keep the floor swept clean and try to stay organized, even when there are boxes everywhere. It’s a specific kind of business and we’ve learned a lot about what people like over the years. We don't do much advertising, people just know where we are when the time comes. Sometimes we sit outside on the bench when there are no customers. It’s just us here at D-31, keeping the traditions going in our own small way. We usually have some tea around four and talk about how the neighborhood is changing. It's a bit of a quiet life until October rolls around.
