Swayam Shakti Women Farmers Producer Company Limited

Swayam Shakti is a women’s farming group based in Barpada, over in the Badachana area. We operate out of Plot 2612 at Nabaghan Jena’s place. We are a collection of women from the local villages who decided that we should work together instead of separately. Farming is what we know best, and we spend most of our daylight hours in the fields. It’s physically tough work, but we are used to it. We don't have any corporate polish or big goals other than making sure our farms stay productive. We grow various crops depending on what time of year it is. Being in Barpada, we are far from the big markets, so we combine our produce to make it easier to sell. We don't use any fancy language to describe ourselves. We are just hard-working women who appreciate the soil and what it gives us. We meet up at the house to talk about which crops are doing well and if there are any problems with the pests. It’s a very hands-on way of doing things. We don't have a big staff, just us doing the labor ourselves. We help each other when someone is struggling with their harvest or if they need extra hands for the planting. It’s about community and survival in a place where farming is the main way of life. We just take it day by day and hope for the best for everyone around here.
