Our work takes place at the Department of Zoology within Shailabala Women's College in Cuttack. It’s a historic institution and being here feels quite different from working in a standard business district. The office is tucked away in an older building where the hallways are high and the floors are made of thick stone. We share the space with books, research papers, and the occasional scientific equipment that someone has left out. It’s a very quiet environment, mostly interrupted by the sound of students moving between classes or the distant noise from the busy Cuttack streets outside the campus walls. We spend our days mostly reading, writing, and organizing data. It’s not a fast-paced environment, but there is always something that needs to be checked or updated. The humidity in Orissa can be quite something, so we have the fans running almost all the time. Sometimes Mr. Gauranga Bariki is around to help out with the administrative side of things, making sure the department runs smoothly. We don't have a corporate structure here; it’s more about the work and the learning that happens every day. Lunch is often a quick affair in the staff room or a walk out to the main gate to see what the street vendors have. It’s a unique place to be, and we just focus on our tasks and the academic routine that defines our days here. We don't worry about the big city stuff too much and just keep our eyes on the books.
