Dfid India New Delhi

Down in Cuttack, on Mahatab Road, there is a small lane right in front of the Basanti Lodge. That is where you will find Kabita Nivas, which is the building where Dfid India New Delhi is based. It is a bit of a maze to find us if you are not from around here, but once you see the Dolamundai landmark, you are pretty close. The building has that old Orissa charm, with thick walls and a layout that doesn't always make sense. We have our desks set up in a couple of the rooms and the windows look out into the narrow lane. It is usually quite quiet back here compared to the main road. Sometimes you can hear the birds or the sounds of people cooking in the houses nearby. We have a lot of files and books stacked up on shelves because we have been here for a while. The floors are stone and they stay relatively cool even when the humidity gets high outside. We don't have a big sign out front, just a small one near the door. Most people who come here are looking for us specifically, so we don't get many random walk-ins. It is a peaceful place to work and we have gotten used to the rhythm of the neighborhood over the years. We take our tea breaks together in the small courtyard when the weather is nice.
