The Government Girls Primary School

Marie Street in Bahoor is where you’ll find our primary school. It’s a quiet enough spot in Pondicherry, though the mornings are always a bit hectic when the girls arrive. Being a girls-only primary school, we have a specific focus on the younger ones from the local area. The building is an older style, typical for this part of the country, with high ceilings and heavy doors. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment, just the essentials like benches, chairs, and enough books to go around. The teachers here have been working in the community for quite some time, so we know most of the families by name. In the afternoons, the sun hits the courtyard, and that’s usually when the kids are the most restless. We spend a lot of time on the basics like reading and writing in both Tamil and English.
