Vennila Dal Mill

Vennila Dal Mill is located at 17, Jp West Street. It is a fairly quiet street if you compare it to the big main roads nearby. The building is just a simple concrete structure. We have all the milling equipment set up inside and it takes up most of the floor space. When we start the machines up in the morning, the whole place vibrates a little bit. We have been operating out of 17 Jp West Street for a while now. Most of the neighbors are used to the sound of the mill by now. We process different kinds of dal here every day. There are always piles of sacks waiting to be processed and other bags ready to be picked up. The floor is hard concrete and it stays relatively cool even when it’s hot outside. We don’t have much in the way of furniture in here. Just a couple of old wooden chairs and a small table for our tea. We spend most of the day on our feet moving things around. It’s a bit of a workout every day. Sometimes we have tea brought in from the little stall down the street. It is a small operation with just a few of us working here. People just know where we are by walking past. We try to keep the place as clean as you can keep a working mill. It involves a lot of sweeping.
