G. K. Mills

You have to head out to Kuppandampalayam to find G. K. Mills. We are located at 3/204, right near the Veerapandi post office. It’s a bit out of the main way, surrounded by more open space than the city. The mill has been running for quite some time, and the machinery makes a steady thumping sound that you can hear from the road. We deal with whatever comes through for milling, and the air inside is usually thick with the smell of what we’re processing. It’s a dusty environment, so we all wear old clothes and just get on with the labor. The building itself is an older structure, and we’ve had to patch up the roof a couple of times after the monsoon seasons. We don’t have a big office or a fancy waiting area for guests. If someone comes to see us, they usually just find us out on the floor or near the loading bay. We work by the daylight mostly, and things slow down as the sun goes over the hills. It’s a quiet life out here, apart from the noise of the machines. We focus on doing the work properly so the farmers and customers keep coming back. It’s not a complicated business, just a mill doing what mills have always done in these parts. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just wait it out until the lines are fixed.
