Our textile unit, Sree Matuthamalai Murugan Textile Industries (P) Ltd., is located at No. 6/28 on B.P.C. Nagar 1st Street. We are just off the Vadavalli - Thondamuthur Road. It’s an industrial area, so there is always the sound of machinery and trucks moving about. We have several power looms here that produce cotton fabric. The noise inside the shed is quite constant and you have to speak up to be heard over the clatter of the machines. My father started this mill a long time ago with just a few machines and a lot of hard work. I grew up around the smell of raw cotton and the sound of the looms, so it felt natural for me to take over. We have about twenty workers who come from the nearby villages. They are good people who know how to handle the yarn and keep the machines running smoothly. We don't do any big marketing or have a fancy showroom. Most of our fabric goes to the big wholesalers in the city who have been buying from us for years. They know our cloth is strong and the weave is regular. We spend our days checking the thread and making sure the looms don't break down. It’s a tiring job and the cotton dust gets into everything, but it’s what we do. We are just a local mill trying to do good work every day and keep the traditions alive.
