A-One Chips

A-One Chips is at number 7, D.B. Road, inside the Kalai Arangam Building in R.S. Puram. It’s a busy spot and you can usually smell the frying oil from down the street. We spend most of our time peeling potatoes or slicing up bananas and throwing them into the big vats of oil. It is hot work and your clothes always end up smelling like snacks by the end of the shift. We have these large metal bins where we toss the chips to cool down before we shake on the salt and spices. The building itself is old and has a lot of character, though the stairs can be a bit steep. Customers come in all day, especially in the evenings when they want something to take home for tea. We don't have a lot of space for people to sit, so it is mostly a walk-in and walk-out kind of deal. Sometimes we run out of the spicy mix and have to grind more in the back, which makes everyone sneeze. It is a simple life, just making sure the chips are crunchy and not too oily. We have a few regular people who come in every single day and we know exactly what they want without them asking. It is just a small local business trying to keep up with the demand in the neighborhood.
