Shri Kannan Rice & Flour Mill

The mill is located on Eyarpahay Nayanar Street, right at number 9A/1-A. You can usually hear us before you see us because the grinders make a lot of noise when they’re running full speed. There’s always a bit of flour dust in the air, which makes everything look a little white by the end of the afternoon. We spend our time turning rice and grains into flour for people who live around here and some of the smaller shops nearby. It’s heavy work, lifting bags and making sure the stones are set just right so the powder comes out smooth. We’ve had the same machines for a long time, and we know exactly how they sound when they need a bit of oil or a break. My hands are usually rough from handling the sacks, but I don't mind it much. We don't have a website or anything like that; people usually just walk in or call us when they need something done. The street outside is always lively, and we often have to stop work for a minute to talk to a passerby. It’s a messy job sometimes, and the heat from the motors can get intense during the summer months. But seeing a pile of fresh, warm flour ready to go makes the effort worth it.
