Sadananda Dutta

If you look for 6/154 Kumaraswamy Palayam, you’ll find us right there in the middle of Gunduninadu. It’s a bit of a maze back here if you aren’t used to the local streets. I’ve lived and worked in this area for a long time. This isn't a big corporation or anything like that. It’s just Sadananda Dutta, which is me, and a couple of helpers when things get really busy. We handle a variety of items depending on what people are looking for. The workspace is part of the house really. It’s got high ceilings and old wooden doors that creak when the wind blows through the palayam. I spend a lot of my time on the phone or writing out receipts by hand. I never got the hang of those complicated digital systems, so I stick to my notebooks. The neighbors are all people I’ve known since I was a kid. We share a lot of the same problems, like when the power goes out or the water is slow. I keep the shop open until late most nights because that’s when people finish their own work and have time to stop by. It’s a slow pace of life but it keeps me busy enough. There is always a pile of something that needs sorting or a customer who wants to talk for an hour about nothing in particular. It’s just how we live and work here in Gunduninadu.
