Maruthi Industries

Our workshop is at 114-B on Atthipalayam Road, in the Gopala Krishnapuram area of Ganapathy. It’s a busy road and there’s always a lot of dust flying around from the traffic. We’ve got a bit of a rhythm going here at Maruthi Industries. The morning starts with opening up the shutters and letting some air in. It’s a compact space, so we have to be careful about where we put everything. We do a lot of small-scale industrial work and there’s usually some metal being cut or welded. You can hear the sounds of the tools from the street. We have a small corner for the paperwork, but most of the action happens on the shop floor. We aren't a big company with a lot of departments. It’s just us doing what we know how to do. Sometimes the neighbors pop in for a chat or to borrow a wrench. We’ve been in this neighborhood for a long time, so everyone knows us. We don’t have a website or anything like that, we just rely on people knowing where we are and what we do. It’s a bit messy, with scraps of material here and there, but we know where everything is. When the power goes, we just sit outside on the bench for a bit until it comes back. It’s just the daily grind for us. We try to finish everything before the sun goes down and we head back.
