The shop is tucked away at 123/2 on Ranga Konar Street. If you know Kattoor, you know it’s always humming with noise. That’s where Industrial And Engineering Products is based. We deal with all sorts of metal parts and mechanical bits that people need for their workshops or bigger projects. It’s a dusty place, to be honest. There are boxes stacked up to the ceiling and the smell of grease is pretty much everywhere. We don’t have a fancy showroom with air conditioning. Most people just come in knowing exactly what bolt or tool they’re looking for. I’ve been working here for years and I still lose track of where some of the smaller items are kept. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to suppliers or trying to figure out if a certain part will fit someone’s old machine. It’s practical work. Nothing glamorous about it. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the back door, so we have to move the stock around to keep it dry. You learn a lot about how things are built when you see the parts every day. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us answering the door and loading crates onto the back of trucks. People stop by for a chat while we look for their order in the back. It’s just how business happens on this street. We keep at it because people need these things.
