Down on Shitra-Kalapatti Road, you’ll find our workshop at number 142. We’ve been in Kalapatti long enough to see the road change from a quiet stretch to a busy lane full of trucks. Dawn Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. is basically just a group of us who enjoy working with metal and machines. The floor is usually covered in some kind of oil or metal shavings, and it’s never quiet. We have these old machines that still work better than the new ones sometimes. We don't spend money on fancy uniforms or a front desk person. Usually, if you walk in, you’ll have to wait a minute for someone to hear you over the sound of the lathe. We do a lot of parts for other companies, things people don’t really see but that make everything else work. It’s hot in the afternoons, but we keep the fans going and get through the list. We’ve had our ups and downs, like any small engineering firm. Some days the power goes out and we just sit outside and talk until it comes back. We don't have a marketing team telling us what to say. We just know how to fix things and build things that don’t break. If you’re looking for 142 on the road, look for the big blue door that’s usually halfway open. That’s us, just working away in the heat and the noise every single day.
