System Engineering

If you walk down 1st Street in Kovilmedu, you’ll find us at number 155. System Engineering isn't a massive factory, it’s more of a workshop where we spend most of our time getting our hands dirty. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings or bits of wire, and there’s always the sound of someone grinding something in the back. We’ve stayed in V. O. C. Nagar because it’s where we know everyone. Most of us grew up around here. We do a lot of the technical stuff that people don't really want to think about. It’s loud, and it smells like oil and burnt metal most mornings. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room with magazines. Usually, you just walk in and find whoever isn't holding a welding torch. We take the jobs as they come. Some days it’s fixing a broken part for a local machine, other days it’s bigger projects that take a few weeks. The tea guy comes around at eleven, and that’s usually when we take our only real break. It’s honest work. We don't spend money on fancy signs or advertising. People just know we are here on the street. It’s a bit cramped when we have a lot of materials delivered, but we manage to move things around. We just keep the machines running and the tools sharp. There is always something to weld or a frame that needs straightening before we head home.
