Coirex International

If you head down Udumalai Road and turn into Vadivu Nagar, you’ll find us at number 56. Coirex International is what we call ourselves, but mostly we are just known as the coir people in Minnagar. The yard is usually full of coconut husks and the smell of the fiber. It gets dusty, but that is just part of the job. We have a small shed where we keep the machines for processing. It’s not a big factory or anything, just a practical space where we get the work done. The sun gets quite hot out here on Udumalai Road, so we start early in the morning to beat the heat. By midday, we are usually taking a break under the trees. We’ve been at 56 Vadivu Nagar for a few years now. Most of the neighbors know us. We handle a lot of the local fiber from the groves nearby. Sometimes the orders are big and we have to bring in extra help from around Minnagar. It’s hard work, lifting the bales and loading the trucks, but it keeps us fit. We don't use fancy office chairs or anything like that. We spend most of our time out on the floor or in the yard. It’s a straightforward business. We take the husks, make the fiber, and send it out. That is all there is to it at our place. We don't make a big fuss about things, we just keep the machines running.
