Balakumaran Modern Rice Mill is out at 33, Aarasan Thotam, in the area of Vannanduraipudur, Nagadevanpalayam. It’s a bit of a mouthful to say the whole address, but we’ve been here long enough that everyone knows the spot. The mill is a loud place once the machines start running. There is a constant drone and the smell of raw rice in the air all day long. We spend most of our time moving heavy bags and making sure the machinery is doing what it’s supposed to. It’s dusty work and by the time we finish, our clothes are usually covered in a fine white powder. The building is large and open to let the air circulate, which is helpful when the sun is beating down on the roof. We don’t have a fancy office or a reception area. Most of the time, we are just out on the floor getting things done. It’s a very practical environment where the focus is on the work at hand. We don’t go in for big advertisements or polished company profiles. We are just a local rice mill providing a service to the farmers and traders around here. It’s a lot of manual labor and long hours, but it’s what we know how to do best. We just keep our heads down and work.
