Balaji Sweets

You can find Balaji Sweets over on Erumapalayam Main Road. We’re at 5/492 in Narayana Pillai Thottam. It’s a busy street and there’s always something going on outside. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen area. It gets really hot in there, especially when we have the big pots going. We make everything right here. The smell of sugar and milk is always in the air. Sometimes the floor gets a bit sticky, but we scrub it down every night before we leave. We aren't a big chain, just a local shop serving the neighborhood. People come in for a quick snack or to take something home for their families. We’ve got a few tables but most people just stand and chat for a minute. The counters are glass so you can see what’s fresh today. We don’t have a fancy website or any of that. Just a sign out front. My brother handles the cooking and I stay out front with the customers. We’ve been at this for a few years now. The morning rush is the hardest part of the day. We have to start very early to get everything ready. It’s a lot of work but we like being part of the community here on the main road. We keep a radio playing in the corner to pass the time when it's quiet. It usually plays old songs that we all know by heart.
