Anna Rice Mill

Anna Rice Mill is located right on 344 Kovai Main Road, and if you can't find us, just look for the Indian Bank because we are very close to that. The road out front is always busy with trucks and bikes zooming past all day long. Inside the mill, it’s a different world with the sound of the machines and that specific smell of rice that sticks to your clothes. It gets pretty loud when everything is running, so we usually have to shout a bit to hear each other. We’ve been at this spot for a while now and the floor is worn smooth from all the heavy bags being dragged across it. Dealing with the grain means there is always a bit of a mess to sweep up at the end of the day, but that’s just how it goes with a rice mill. We don't really do much in the way of advertising because everyone on Kovai Main Road knows where we are anyway. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside on the steps and wait for it to come back on. It’s hard work, especially in the heat, but it’s what we know. The Indian Bank next door is a good landmark for people who are coming from further away. We just focus on getting the work done and keeping the machines in good shape so they don't break down on us.
