Aafrin Biryani Rice

We are located at No:578 C, Arthi Street, right in the Ukkadam area. As the name Aafrin Biryani Rice suggests, we mostly deal with different types of rice. It’s a dusty business, moving heavy sacks around all day. I usually have white flour on my shirt by noon. We get different varieties of rice from various mills and sell them to families and the local small hotels around here. It’s not a fancy showroom. We just have the bags stacked up and some samples in small plastic bowls so people can see the grain. The smell of raw rice is very strong in here, which I’ve always liked. Arthi Street is always crowded, so getting the delivery trucks in and out is a bit of a headache every morning. We don’t have a lot of staff, just a couple of guys who help with the heavy lifting and me handling the cash. We don’t use any marketing tricks. People know which rice is good for biryani and they come to us for it. Sometimes we talk about the price of grain for an hour with a customer. It’s just a straightforward trade. We don't have any grand plans to grow big. We just want to keep providing the same bags of rice we always have. It’s an honest day's work and we’ve been doing it at this spot for years.
