Weavers India

We are located at 15A, Agbarabath 2nd St in Kodambakkam. This is a part of Chennai that has a lot of history with textiles and weaving. Weavers India is a small setup where we deal with different kinds of fabrics. The street is quite narrow, so you have to be careful when you’re bringing in a load of cloth or moving a vehicle. Inside, it’s a bit of a maze with rolls of material stacked high in the corners and along the walls. You can hear the hum of machines if you go into the back rooms. It gets very humid here in the afternoons, but we are used to it. We spend our days checking the quality of the weave and making sure the colors are exactly right. It’s a lot of looking closely at threads and feeling the texture of the cotton or silk under your fingers. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most of our clients come to us because they know the kind of work we do. We sit on plastic chairs around an old wooden table to discuss the orders. There’s always a glass of water or a cup of hot coffee nearby. Kodambakkam is a busy place, and there’s always something happening outside on the street. We just stay focused on the fabric. It’s a traditional kind of business, even if we use some modern tools now and then. We like the smell of fresh cloth and the satisfaction of seeing a finished piece ready for sale.
